A fourth grader was suspended for bringing Jell-O to school in a Louisiana public school. School officials tested it and it did not contain any alcohol or drugs, but she was suspended because it was a “look alike drug.” Nod to James Taranto whose elementary school apparantly had fountains containing a liquid that looked a lot like vodka.

Accoona.com, a new search engine based on artificial intelligence was launched in New York and China yesterday. They claim is that their technology creates more relavant search results. Their name from the Swahili saying “hakuna matata” (think Lion King) meaning “no worries.” Bill Clinton helped launch the company here, and in China, the company is backed by the Chinese government and available to a huge number of Chinese users through Chinadaily.com.cn.

Jeremy Wright, an experienced blogger, is auctioning “his blogging services” on Bay. The auction ends Friday and so far the bids are up to $1600. At the rate of his promised 5-10 posts per week, that’s about 60-120 posts, or about $13-$26 per post. Cool. Good luck, Jeremy. (and Merry Christmas.)

Enough is enough. If you are offended when someone else says “Merry Christmas” — go write your Congressperson — and leave the rest of us alone. The Federal Christmas holiday, signed into law by President Grant in 1870, is based on a religious holiday. It shouldn’t be offensive to those not of that religion to hear “Merry Christmas” at this time of year. It’s a national holiday and it’s called “Christmas.”

Macy’s (owned by Federated Department Store’s, Inc.) has no problem advertising “After Christmas Sales” when it suits their needs. But prohibiting all “Merry Christmas” signs in their stores when they’re trying to get our money is a more than a little obnoxious — and offensive.
