I think that if they try to collect sales tax from all the little guys they will spend more trying to collect it than they make. Of course that has never stopped them before.

I’m just opening my Yahoo store and have been looking to find how other etailers handle the different state taxes. Am I correct from these comments, that most do not charge sales tax?

This whole topic is a real mind bender. Especially with cross border sales. I reside in Canada, have my US vendor drop ship in the US and Canada (and occasionally overseas). I can’t imagine trying to track and figure out who would be owed what!

This subject completely pisses me off. Why in the hell should I pay an internet sales tax on an old used item some guy 5 miles away is selling to me. What is next???? – charging taxes at f*cking garage sales? charging for everything you put an add in the paper to sell? Why don’t you people who are in favor of it really start taking a look at EVERYTHING you pay taxes on. Add it up and you will be astonished at the state bloodsucking.

Just more of an issue for eCommerce entrepreneurs to be concerned with. Want to get your tax accountant to look dumbfounded scratching head?... just ask questions about taxation across state lines doing business on the internet. It's definitely far from difinitive because some companies charge sales tax when they shouldn't be. I don't see them forwarding those taxes to the appropriate state, but they don't hesitate to charge them. Robert Trapping Forum
