Is Google Getting a Vice President of Electricity?
In the early 1900′s, big companies often had a Vice President of Electricity. (Really.) Getting power was a big deal, and someone senior needed to be in charge of it. As electricity became easily available through the grid, these positions disappeared.
Fast forward 100 years, and one of Google’s biggest challenges is . . . electricity.
Now, Google is getting into the power business. Focusing on renewable energy, they want to produce a gigawatt of electricity (enough to power a big city), for less than the cost of power from coal, within a “years, not decades” according to co-founder Larry Page.

GE and the power of wind Google must be looking into wind turbine electric power generation, along with all other renewables such as solar.
What does Googles energy czar think about T. Boone Pickens and the Pickens Plan? I feel that alot of the ideas in the Pickens Plan make sense reducing our nation’s dependence on foreign oil.
Starting a home based internet buiness would be a personal action to reducing foreign oil dependency. For free media and information about how you can start your home base eCommerce business and be successful click here.
Very commendable. Will certainly help them in the PR battle against becoming ‘big, bad google’
Please remember though that we can all save a lot more energy by doing the simple things at home.

They also need to research power generation for their offshort data centers (http://www.datacenterknowledge.com/archives/2008/09/06/google-planning-offshore-data-barges). Currently, they want to use Pelamis Wave Energy Converter units, which use the waves in the ocean to generate electricity.

Buy moving people from PC’s and Laptops to Hand held devices the energy savings for this alone are commendable. I applaud Google and the “Don’t be evil” motto that they follow. I say lets all get on board and follow there example.
